Anyone got any ideas on how to do poses that are more likely to be that of a scythe user? I find this kind of posing kinda tricky, you see, I wanted to do a pose while using a sprite style inspired by Vibrato's sprite art style.

Hmm. A scythe would be wielded very similarly to a staff. That should be easier to search for references for.

Meanwhile, in Unison League, scythes are wielded like lances.

Oookay, that's nice, but I don't see how that's relevant to what Lyseth is attempting to do.

I was noting a possible pose for scythe wielding, sheesh...

Sorry, it seemed like a non sequitur since you can't poke or stab or knock someone off a horse with a scythe, and those are the only attacks a lance can do.

I was only referring that the basic/ready stance was the same- the attacking itself isn't like a lance at all, more like an axe type of swing. Here is a zoomed in screenshot of what I mean by the scythe basic/ready stance from Unison League.

I would treat it like the character was wielding a halberd basically (well actually, I would have it be a halberd instead, since scythes make a ****e weapon, but that doesn't help you design a believable animation for fighting with one) only without any of the spearing movements basically.
Something like that for a ready stance(ignore the dude in the back as he's preparing to spear someone which wouldn't work with scythes obviously), and have the attack windmill the weapon around the body in a 200 degree arc or so. Maybe have it's benefit as a weapon be that it can hit enemies that are adjacent to the target because of its sweeping arc and its drawbacks be that it doesn't penetrate (or breaks apart uselessly if you want to go for realism...) armor well. From that stance you could also have the character bring the scythe straight down, and then yank the blade forward from behind the enemy. (like chaffing wheat, only the target's neck is the stalk) That would actually probably be the better choice as far as realism goes, as that could be an effective way to kill someone, though in real life it leaves you wide open if you aren't quick enough to reap your opponent and all he has to do is step forward with a quick thrust to end you, but in an rpg where everyone moves in turns that's not so much of a concern, yes? And it would look cool at least!

Well thing is, since I'm going by JRPG standards, from what I've seen, scythes are sharpened on both sides for swiping at someone.

...then have it shatter the moment it hits something harder than a loaf of bread I guess? No, go with @JtheDuelist's idea then, underhanded axe-like cuts are the best way to demonstrate that it's "sharpened on both sides" though I personally find that style of flashy foolishness cringy and stupid, and would rather see something that at least halfway looks like it might actually work rather than fall back on "it's tempered with magic" or some such to handwave the inconsistency away.

You know I was actually hoping for an ACTUAL argument in place of belittling someone's idea, please come back when you can speak in a not-so-abrasive manner
