Breaking news: on 29 July 2024 the Labour government announced that it would be accepting a recommendation to increase NHS pay by 5.5% for all staff on the Agenda for Change payscale, as well as making some small additional changes to the scale such as new intermediate spine points for bands 8a, 8b, 8c, 8d and 9. The new spine points are awaiting formal approval by the NHS Staff Council, but we understand it is very unlikely that the Staff Council would object to their introduction.
This page details how it is expected NHS pay will change for staff following these recommendations. Although should be treated as a guide until full and final documentation is released by the government, which is expected in August 2024. In the tables below, we have indicated which figures have been formally confirmed (as of 4 August) and which are still awaiting confirmation. We will update this page as more information becomes available.
It has now been confirmed by NHS Employers that for most NHS staff the 2024/25 pay rise will not be reflected in monthly pay until October 2024, although the pay rise will be backdated to April. Find out more about why our initial pay prediction was a 2.5-3% pay rise and why most NHS staff will have noticed a slight pay rise in their April 2024 pay packets.
The figures below also include breakdowns showing the High Cost Area Supplement (HCAS) for staff in London and the surrounding areas. Although 24/25 changes have not yet been formally confirmed, we expect the HCAS (and minimum/maximum payments) to increase in line with overall changes in rates of pay (i.e. rise by 5.5%), which would mean the following additional supplements:
HCAS area | Rate of HCAS supplement | Predicted Minimum Payment 2024/25 | Predicted Maximum Payment 2024/25 |
Inner London | 20% | £5,604 | £8,171 |
Outer London | 15% | £4,550 | £5,735 |
Fringes | 5% | £1,258 | £2,121 |
