Wow. Really no big surprise that no other changes are being done, though…
…do you have any information on upcoming Svengoolies???
Also, surprised no Sventoonie. I thought it might be back in the fall. Maybe October??? Hopefully October??? Also, any announcements on any Svengoolie October event like there was last year?

I dont think there will be any new episodes of Svengoolie, until after the actors strike gets settled. Good news about the Woody Woddpecker cartoons coming to METV, because the Saturday morning block was desperately needing some different cartoons.

Do you mean Sventoonie? Svengoolie isn't affected by the strike.

I know there is a morning show exception, that allows for new episodes to be filmed regardless of the writers and actors strike. Might have been one of the reasons Toon In With ME reformatted the show recently. I just figured Rich Koz is part of the actors union and has not filmed any new episodes, minus the mail segments.

I think it is with Toon In with Me but Svengoolie has been doing public appearances and will be doing public appearances of his stuff, actors in the SAG can't do that presently. I think it is the reason why we haven't been seeing Sventoonie, but it is normal for Svengoolie to not have new episodes in August since it is the end of summer. When fall starts up, I'm sure we will be seeing a handful of new episodes of Svengoolie -- plus he has been taping new segments (mostly bridge segments, but they're still "new") to these shows since they're an extra half-hour.

There was a period of time after the strike started, probably when Toon In With Me ran out of episodes taped before the strike, when they were really mixed up. Scheduled episodes with no title, swapped episodes, even one episode that was on the MeTV schedule and the TV guides, and was replaced with a future-scheduled rerun at the last minute. After about two weeks of that chaos, they probably found out what they had to do, and dealt with it.

If Toon in with Me was affected by the writer's strike they could just air reruns until its over. They have filmed enough episodes already, same for Svengoolie. With Sven, if they regain the rights to an old movie that played before, they usually either film new segments or just rerun the old clips. I've seen them do that before.
As for the first schedule change in the Fall. It's nice to see more cartoons but changing the schedule for a Saturday morning timeslot is not enough. This channel has gotten stale.

I think part of the reason Toon In With ME kept filming new episodes, was because alot of the reruns featured a Pink Panther, Inspector or Roland and Ratfink cartoon. With commercial breaks and etc, its not as easy as snipping one toon out + hosting segment where Bill mentions the upcoming Depatie Freleng carton and replacing it with another toon.
I think a reason they are not adding alot of new old sitcoms is,because they got burnt on Full House. METV's audience was probably the wrong demographic for that show.

MeTV has to be careful selecting reruns of Toon In With Me. They must avoid any shows with Pink Panther and related cartoons (or be in for a lot of complicated editing), or episodes that are date-specific. And make sure episodes with seasonal references match the season. They may make the task easier by pre-selecting rerun-worthy episodes, though. With reruns there is also a little editing anyway, since they always preview the next episode. It does help that they have amassed nearly 600 episodes.
As for the stale aspect, it sure doesn't help to add another hour of MASH. It's the easy way out for a problem time slot, when they should have tried another different show. Maybe they could have tried another show from the Star Trek franchise.

Can't see them adding more Star Trek shows because of H&I. A popular show like Dallas might work. They could start by adding two episodes of Dallas on Sunday evening. It could replace M A.S.H and cut down one hour of All In The Family, which also might not be doing all that great, since they are going to interrupt the Sunday schedule during the hollidays.
If it wasn't considered to be politically incorrect, The Dukes Of Hazzard would probably be the perfect fit for METV's audience.

There are some theories I've seen someplace, maybe on here, that their MASH contract is nearly up. And that they would need a replacement. My thought is they are probably paying an arm and a leg for it, it's still lucrative for them, and Fox would renew it for even more $.
I'd bet the Dukes would do well for them at 6, but at the price of a lot of flak and complaining. And free publicity, a positive. I had to look it up and see it's owned by Warner, which they obviously deal with. And, they might be able to bargain a good price for it.

I think the only thing that works in METV's favor about renewing MASH, is Disney needs money and lots of it, because next year they will have to buyout Comcast's stake in Hulu. METV will probably end up having to share MASH with their streaming competitor, PlutoTV. It will still be a loss, because fans will probably start binge streaming it for free.
The money might be better spent on buying back Columbo, adding Dallas, The Dukes Of Hazzard and pairing them up with Murder She Wrote on Sunday nights.
So the Sunday schedule could look something like this:
5:00pm The Love Boat
6:00pm The Dukes Of Hazzard
7:00pm Dallas
8:00pm Columbo
10:00pm Murder She Wrote
11:00pm and whatever they want do with this slot

There are several things they need to do. First, air THE BRADY BUNCH, LEAVE IT TO BEAVER and THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES an hour later on Sunday. This would allow room for PUNKY BREWSTER. Second, air the color episodes of THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW. Third, cut out 1 hour of MASH. Last, but not least, move MY THREE SONS to 7:00 Central, and take off one telecast of LEAVE IT TO BEAVER.

The TAGS thing makes sense, particularly since they are PAYING for the color episodes but not using them.
Is there some pent-up demand for Punky Brewster? I mean they might as well pick up Small Wonder while they're at it (which I actually would like to see on there).

I totally agree about Andy Griffith. They have all the episodes, they need to show them all, not just the black and white ones even if they are better.
Also they should be showing 4 episodes a day of My Three Sons. That show has 384 episodes and takes a long time to go through. For a show with that many episodes, one a day doesnt cut it.

Good point, I never thought of that. That's a pain to deal with.
Maybe the Full House situation scared them. We don't know how much money they spent to get the show but it flopped hard and they most likely took a loss.

Good point, I didn't think of that with Toon in with ME. I think the 6pm timeslot is the worst for action shows. Historically CHiPs, Hawaii Five-O, The A-Team all aired for less than a year before it taken off. It seems sitcoms do a little better.

.
I heard it because of ratings. People don't like the color and only remember the B/W days.

That was from me . The MASH and TAGS contract runs for 10 years, 2014 - 2024. Just a theory since there has to be a reason why they're doubling down on MASH. Get the most outta the show before its gone.

I think fans who grew up watching Full House have moved on to the paid streaming sevices. Sort of makes me wonder, if METV will have this same problem with any 90's or 2000's family sitcom that featured a cast under 40, or even shows like The Office and Friends? I know the Office didn't really take off on CoziTV.

While it is indeed possible that FULL HOUSE got taken off MeTV's schedule in January because of ratings, it's also possible that MeTV took that show off because of Candace Cameron Bure's insensitive comment in November. Ever since MeTV's sibling, Decades, changed its name to Catchy Comedy in March FULL HOUSE has been airing on that channel. MeTV may have been the wrong place for FULL HOUSE. If that was the caes, though, why didn't they add more family comedies from the 60s and 70s rather than only air the same shows?

The,only classic sitcoms or family shows from the 60's and 70's I could see them maybe wanting to add, would be shows like Bewitched, Three's Company, The Munsters and Lassie. Problem is, other retro channels such as AntennaTV and Cozi are holding onto those shows with a tight grip. They tried to go a bit more modern with shows like Full House and Monk, but it must not have worked out for them.
Something they could try, that might get people interested in classic shows again, would be resurrecting Sventoonie and Blob E. Blob and let them host a (toned down)late night talk show with viewer requested classic shows on Friday night. As far as original programming, they should invest in a Double Dare / Legends Of The Hidden Temple type of family game show.
I keep picturing a family safe adult swim type of block on the weekends that help spotlight classic shows and old hortor movies. Thanks to Svengoolie, people watch old horror and Sci-Fi movies they normally wouldn't watch. Could the same idea and host format work for classic shows?

It didn't, sadly, and I remember people in this forum hating the additions of "modern" shows like Full House and Monk. Even A-Team from the early 80s flopped. I have no idea what the audience for MeTV wants. It seems they reject most things past the late 70s, but then complain that there aren't "new" shows to watch on the channel. Why not just watch Antenna TV?

I think they will. The audience that grew up with these shows are apart of the streaming/tech generation. They don't stick to linear broadcasting.

A lot of retro tv shows have to be brought and typically only one channel holds the rights to broadcast it. So other channels need to wait for the contracts to expire in order to make a move. It can take years. Sometimes I've seen shows shared among different channels. Depends on the show.

I'm not sure why Svengoolie doesn't air 6 nights a week on the channel. It's clearly popular and they should have enough movies to rerun by now.
I don't think a late-night talk show with audience interaction would work. It just seems like too much work for MeTV and what if nobody votes? I think a real concern is the future of the channel. The Vice Chairman of Weigel said that they need to come with new ideas to attract the younger demographic (18-39 I assume) to watch the channel.
They created the Saturday morning cartoons block and Toon in with ME which seems to work. The nostalgia runs deep that timeslot for kids growing up and older folks enjoy watching the classics as well.
I have no idea what else they could do for the rest of the schedule. Newer shows like Full House and Monk don't work and 80s shows like The A-Team flopped as well.
The demographic right now still seems to be baby boomers but you get the sense they want to move away from that when they started creating original-produced shows like Collector's Call and Toon in with ME. Modern shows with a classic theme.

You can't please every viewer. I still remember on the MeTV website whenever they announced a schedule change, every comment was a request for a different show.
One thing everything can agree on though is that its boring watching the same re-re-reruns on the channel. That's why new shows should be added/rotated with other shows.

I think in the near future, you will seee more Svengoolie content on Saturday night, with Bill Leff (Nostalgiaferatoo) maybe becoming the spawn of Svengoolie. Hopefully, it will switch to a double feature format and the 2nd film won't just be public domain movies. Having a 2nd feature, might give them an opportunity to explore other genres such as Sci-Fi, comedy, hot rods and cult classic films.
I think the Saturday morning cartoon block maybe works, because you can't get that same type of nostalgia experience from any streaming service or youtube. METV also sticks with theatrical cartoons that wasn't just made for kids.
Another idea for Sunday, could be a Sunday night movie that spotlights a different James Bond film each week.

I never said I wanted MeTV do have the same shows forever. I actually loved Full House, Monk, Columbo, A-Team, etc. It just seems like people don't want the changes. They love MASH, they love Perry Mason, they love Leave it to Beaver. Most of their new acquisitions have been rejected, so what are they supposed to do? Does anyone know how well All In The Family is doing ? This is a step in the right direction towards shows being on the schedule that have never been maybe The Jeffersons could come back or maybe more 70's 80's show ? being 36 im on the younger end of the demographic and while i enjoy the b and w shows it would be nice to throw some more modern ones to freshen things up a little.

In some cases I think they needed longer contracts to begin with. If a series they've added does well, it may still disappear because they no longer have the rights to air it.

I don't see it as the same audience or network.
BTW, I one had a storage unit next to Soleil's back in the 90s.

Rewind seems to be the place for those 80s huggy, very special episode comedies.

I saw an episode of Adam-12 when I was at my grandma's house today. Our Fort Wayne affiliate has terrible reception, sound kept cutting out. It wouldn't matter much even if Xfinity finally put MeTV on my lineup with a signal that needs a lot stronger, this must be what happens when something is buried on a .6 substation.

Surprised MeTV is a .6 subchannel when its the #1 diginet right now. I would think it would be a .2 subchannel. Maybe it will be in your area someday. It's a .2 here.

I'm digging the Halloween theme. MeTV does a good job celebrating it even if it is once a year. I wish the mini marathons would run Sunday afternoons like last year instead of Saturday overnights.
I'm curious if the Svengoolie double feature will be a permanent change. They can even bring back Sventoonie at 12:30. Giving us 5 hours of Sven-related content. What MeTV adds or takes off is always based on ratings. The article confirms that Kolchak is also very popular which would explain why the show despite having only 20 episodes has been on the channel forever.

Really enjoyed that episode when it showed the Ultraman toy figure and 5 second clip of the series. Wish metv would put it on the air been over fifty years since it's been on. However I've found Ultraman series online in Japanese and on Netflix is there any episodes of the US version at all of ultraman anywhere? Seventoonie back they could move batman back to 7pm slot on Saturday.

I think it will be difficult to change up Me TVs Current Schedule because they have Spin-off Channels. Me TV is the main channel to show viewers what the entire franchise offers. Although they could do what antenna tv & rewind tv do and Move shows from Catchy to Me & Me to Catchy however there are some shows that air on both Catchy & Me TV.

Not counting the Charlie Brown movies and other specials MeTV aired. I think only one show was new to the channel this year which was All in the Family. Clearly, adding new shows and making schedule changes far and few between.

Yeah I thought about this too. MeTV basically has 3 other spin-off channels (H&I, Plus and Catchy). They have a huge library of shows to spread out on 4 channels. They do not need to make any changes. But they really should as many people don't get all the channels. More rotation is needed.

There are a couple of headscratchers here, the last episode of the Griffith Show is really the backdoor pilot for Mayberry RFD with the first episode of Mayberry RFD really being the final episode of TAGS. The Beverly Hillbillies final episode is the completion of a story arc involving Mike Minor, it doesn't make sense without seeing the preceding episodes. The series at this point could have been retitled Hathaway's Hillbillies, as the final episodes have a very different structure with Miss Jane becoming the lead character.
